In Self-Care for Writers, The Courage Room facilitator and writer Karen Connelly will lead us on an inspired, challenging and creative exploration into the meaning and practice of ‘self-care.’
How do we “take care” of ourselves as writers? Is ‘self-care’ the same or different for creative people as it is for anyone else? Is ‘self-care’ a form of indulgence? How can we assuage some of the more intense and painful emotions that writing might stir up for us, especially after we’ve finished writing?
Karen will introduce a simple, familiar trinity, one we live in, worship, or wrestle with every single day, in one way or another: Brain Body Spirit. She’ll introduce one practice in each area, inviting participants to experience how these ‘three’ touch and braid together, and how we can work in gentle, mindful ways with each to ‘practice’ self-care in real time.
Please come equipped with a notebook and some coloured pencils or felts. If you are able or inclined, please be prepared to stand and do some mild, self-directed movements.
